Bainbridge Island/ Seattle

We needed a little break from all the nature walks and wilderness. Jared talked about how he and his family had enjoyed Bainbridge Island before so we decided this would be our next destination. Instead of a long 6+ hour drive north, we made it to Bainbridge Island in an hour and a half.

We couldn’t make any reservations because it was so last minute but we were able to snag a first come first serve spot at Fay Bainbridge Park with water and electric hookups.

We were right by the bathrooms which offered a nice big shower room ($1.00 for 6 minutes).

Jared and I explored the area after we got set up. It had a great little beach area to sit by.

We played a little frisbee and walked around the park for a bit too.

Bainbridge Island has a free art museum that we explored. It wasn’t really our thing but we were looking for something different to look at (not a forest).

The next day, we headed into Seattle. It was a pretty easy trip since we got to take the ferry straight into the city. We were amongst commuters and other tourists so it was a nice quiet ride over. It was a much smoother ride than the Argosy Cruise we took when we were in Seattle a few years ago.

It was verrrryyy windy.

Our first stop was for coffee but not at the first Starbucks. We weren’t too interested in waiting in a line that went around the corner for coffee.

We made our way to Pike’s Market where we roamed around and looked at all the beautiful flowers they had for sale. Jared wanted to take pictures in front of the golden pigs but there were kids climbing all over it.

We ended up getting some apple cinnamon bread at a bakery and ate it at a bench near the market. We were fueling up for a 45 minute walk to Olympic Sculpture Park. We ended up leaving for the park a little earlier than anticipated because of a weird, shirtless man who showed up yelling. That wasn’t our cup of tea so we wrapped up our bread and started our walk.

When we got to the park, we had a great view of the Puget Sound. It was nice and peaceful with plenty of shaded seating.

We even tried Dick’s Drive In for burgers, fries and a shake. Here, they charged for packets of ketchup, so guess what we did? We had no ketchup.

As we continued on to Frye’s Art Museum, we were close to the Space Needle and the International Fountain where we saw an older gentleman run through the water fountain with his shirt off. (Apparently a lot of people like taking their shirts off in Seattle.)

After another 45 minute walk to the museum, we looked at some more art. It was a small gallery so we got through all the paintings in about 20 minutes. We headed towards Pioneer Square to check out the area but we didn’t stay too long.

We decided to just relax at a little bar and have a drink while we waited for the ferry to arrive.

The ferry ride back to Bainbridge Island was nice and relaxing, especially after our 22,000+ steps around the city. We basically walked the entire Seattle skyline.

We relaxed the following day away by watching episodes of Blue Blood and reading books. We were wiped out by all the walking the day before.

After this adventure, we were heading out to our vacation away from our vacation.

Home.
