Glen Canyon

We’re boondocking! Again!

But this time, on a beach – Lone Rock Beach.

I was a little skeptical because I love full hook-ups. This beach let’s you camp anywhere on the beach, which is pretty awesome.

We decided to stay a little further from the actual water because there were so many other rigs there since it was Labor Day weekend.

We set up (leveled the trailer, plugged in the generator, etc.) and relaxed a bit in the trailer. Well, until the wind started to pick up and sand was blowing everywhere. We rushed to get all the windows and doors closed since sand was getting blown into the trailer.

Once we were all secure, we watched the wind go wild. People were rushing back to their cars and trailers.

We thought it was going to die down soon but it kept at it for more than 30 minutes.

We had never seen anything like it.

We decided to check out the area near by.

We drove to Page, Arizona and went to see Horseshoe Bend.

It was a short hike down and worth it.

There were so many people there that we didn’t have a lot of room to check out the views. We headed back to the trailer and settled in for the night.

The next morning, I tried to see the sunrise since it was right outside our window. We haven’t been able to see the sun rise yet since we started our trip. Like we said, we’re not morning people.

I got up, opened the window and saw that the sun hadn’t come all the way up yet.

I fell back to sleep after 10 minutes. The sun was just taking too long.

Our first stop when we actually woke up was the Glen Canyon Visitor Center. It was right in front of the Glen Canyon Dam.

It’s huge!

After checking out the information on the dam and the area around, coffee was our next stop. There’s only one Starbucks in Page, Arizona and it was crowded. We took up a lot of time getting the caffeine we needed.

We headed out to Lower Antelope Canyon. We were pretty excited since we had seen some neat photos on the internet. It was a little out of the main drag so we had a short drive.

When we got there, we found out that we would not be able to explore the canyon by ourselves. Since the canyon was on Navajo Lands, we would have to pay a tour guide to take us through. We quickly looked up the prices for these tours and found out they were too rich for our blood. So we turned around and headed back to camp.

We relaxed outside a bit and got our feet in the sand. It was really nice. There wasn’t much we could do since there was barely any cell phone signal and the Internet was spotty.

IMG_6409.jpgJared wanted to watch the stars so we stayed out a while longer. Once it was really dark, you could see so many stars! It was unbelievable! We’ve never seen so many stars.

Jared said the sky and stars puts our whole lives into perspective. The universe makes us so small.

Our stop to Glen Canyon was definitely worth it.
