Our next stop, Dillon, CO! We were heading for higher elevations and colder weather! The drive involved climbing some steep hills but Aljo and the Suburban were able to handle them.
We pulled into the campground and found a few first-come-first-served spots. We backed in to the spot pretty well!
Here was our view:

The trees were beautiful! We love the quaking aspens!
Our first stop the next day was the botanical gardens in Vail! The landscaping was beautiful. Vail is well known for it’s great skiing/snowboarding. People come from all of the world for it.

We went to the Ski and Snowboard Museum in Colorado.
There were some Olympic Medals on display, which was pretty cool.

Here’s a picture of what snowboards used to look like:

We learned about the 10th Mountain Division and their role during World War II. The Ski Troopers trained in the mountains of Colorado (over 9,000’ above sea level). They ended up fighting in Italy.

After the war, most of those who trained in Colorado Mountains went back to Colorado Mountains. A lot of veterans helped in the development of ski and snowboarding equipment.

We walked through the rest of the city of Vail. We also drove through some of the neighborhoods. Some of these cabins were picturesque. Vail is a very rich area and no expenses are spared.

We could tell that Vail would have been a winter wonderland.

The next day, we went to shops in a little town nearby – Frisco. We had a grand time exploring the little museum they had on the town’s history too! Colorado has a lot of cute mountain towns with eating and shopping.

We went on a hike the next day that had a nice view of Dillon Lake. Sapphire Point was a 0.5 mile loop hike with little elevation gain. We even looked for some hawks flying over.

We then went to Breckenridge, another cute mountain town. We stopped at a whole bunch of little shops on the main street.
Unfortunately, we lost our SD card on our shopping trip. We were carrying it in our pocket to transfer some pictures on our laptops at the Starbucks nearby. We only found that out when we finally sat down at Starbucks. We went back into every store we were previously in and asked the store keepers if any one had turned in an SD card.
We didn’t have any luck. We even called the Breckenridge Welcome Center a couple days later to see if anything was turned in.
Colorado was beautiful and we’ll always remember what we lost.
Hi …..It looks as though you had a great time visiting various little towns, I really enjoyed seeing the museum pictures. I appreciate Mallory putting this together for all of us……..good job. Sorry you lost your card.
