Shenandoah State Park

We drove out to Shenandoah River State Park. We had to stop and do some quick errands before arriving at our campground (grocery shopping, purchasing a new sewer hose, and getting a much needed car wash).

By the time we settled in, we were in for the night. We called our families and caught up with everyone. Jared started to feel under the weather so staying in was a good decision.

We took showers at the campground. They had clean facilities and huge shower rooms!

The spots were huge and very private. Our camp host came by with her dog (who was very excited to meet us).

We had much of the campground to ourselves since it was November at this point.

The next morning, we headed into Shenandoah National Park.

All the trees looked amazing!

Our first stop, Dickey-Ridge Visitor Center. It wasn’t very big but they had a small exhibit where we watched the welcome video.

They had a fire going inside that warmed us up!

The weather was great when we left our campground so I didn’t think I would need a jacket. Turns out, it’s a lot colder because we were at a much higher elevation. I ended up borrowing Jared’s extra jacket.

We decided on a short hiking trail – The Fox Hollow Trail. It was a little over a mile but had some interesting historical markers.

The Fox Family lived in this area in 1856 and used the land around us to farm wheat and corn. They grew what they needed and used the land to survive.

The Fox Family Cemetery was just off the trail. It was very interesting because the stone used for the grave markers were imported.

We kept on exploring because the Fox family left a lot of evidence showing they lived in the area.

We had a grand time hiking this short trail.

After our short hike, we decided to drive into the park some more and stopped at some of the picnic areas. They were deserted! We didn’t see too many others on the road or trails since the weather was getting colder.

We loved all the changing colors since there were trees as far as we could see.

Before we were fully away from Virginia, we made a quick stop at a rest stop. We had to check the tire pressure. Unfortunately, the tire pressure on one of our trailer tires had a low PSI.

We had to replace another tire before we left Virginia!

We called ahead to see if they would be able to service our vehicle and trailer. Luckily they had a huge parking area in the back. We had to wait a little while but we were able to get a new tire and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg. It was very comparable to the last tire we replaced.

They had a nice sitting area where we took a break from being in the car and trailer while waiting for the repairs to finish.

Luckily, the repair only took just over an hour. Our stop for the night was a Walmart so we weren’t excited to get there too early.

Next stop, South Carolina!
